To find out more about Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2017 and the spotlights, please see the introductory article.
Next up in our Spotlight feature is Derailed, which plays Edinburgh Festival from 14 – 28 August 2017. I caught up with Little Soldier Productions:
Describe your show in three words.
Fiesta, post-brexit blues and mirror ball helmet.
Is this your first Edinburgh Fringe performance experience?
No, we brought up The Stage-Award winning The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha.
Who else are you most looking forward to seeing while at the Fringe?
How do you feel to be performing at Pleasance Dome?
Excited! It is the first time Little Soldier is at the Pleasance and every year we spend many hours seeing what is cooking there. So glad to become part of the family.
Who or what are your inspirations?
The joy we get out of making theatre is far beyond the struggle, and at the heart of this joy is always the people we work with. Our team is always key, and to a certain extent, sometimes the Who is more important than the What
What is your secret to surviving the intense, fast pace of the fringe?
We don’t know, really, is there actually a way? We are very passionate about what we do, so that tends to be our main fuel. Also, September is a recovery month generally.
What are the future plans for your show?
The West End, making the film version, selling the show album and being number one. Also, we are doing an Autumn tour around the UK.
What is the best production you have seen this year – can be any genre, style, in any theatre or performance space?
Life of Galileo.
Is there anything else you want to highlight about your show/ theatre company/ production?
This is not a conventional show, it is a party in a show. It is packed with loads of surprises – we travel back in time and space, we laugh and cry and play and dance and sing and we feed our audience too. Spoiler alert: if you think you have seen it all, we put Dalai Lama in a wrestling fight against the personification of ‘greed’, that might be difficult to top
