News: The V&A celebrates 25 Years of British Theatre on Film

The V&A Department of Theatre and Performance celebrates 25 Years of British Theatre on Film from the National Video Archive of Performance (NVAP) with a special event and reception on 30 April.

To celebrate the silver anniversary of British Theatre on Film, the V&A Department of Theatre and Performance is hosting two special panel discussions on 30 April 2017, followed by a drinks reception and birthday celebration.

From 11:00, a panel of filmmakers from the V&A and the RSC will host a free drop-in session to discuss the past, present and future practice of capturing theatre on film – from the V&A’s first recordings in 1992 right through to this year’s virtual reality recording of the David Bowie musical Lazarus.

From 14:30, theatre critic Matt Wolf will lead a conversation with actors Juliet Stevenson, Maureen Lipman and Simon Russell Beale, as they discuss some of their favourite theatre productions from the last 25 years, from Hamlet to Hangmen. Tickets for this are £5 (including entrance to a special birthday tea and cake!) and can be purchased from the V&A website.

Both events are part of the larger V&A Performance Festival week program – for more details, please visit the V&A website.
