After a critically acclaimed performance at The Coliseum in 2016, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s award-winning musical Sunset Boulevard announces a UK and Ireland tour in September 2017.
The Tony-award winning musical will open at The Curve Theatre, Leicester on 16 September before touring the country until February 2018. A compelling story of romance and obsession, it centres around the relationship between faded silent-screen goddess, Norma Desmond, and impoverished screen writer, Joe Gillis. On the run from debt collectors, Joe stumbles into Norma’s reclusive world and is persuaded to work on her ‘masterpiece’, a film script that she believes will put her back in front of the cameras. Effortlessly seduced by the luxurious life-style, Joe becomes entrapped in a claustrophobic world until his love for another woman leads him to try and break free with dramatic consequences.
Leading the cast is Glenn Close’s understudy during the production’s London run – Ria Jones played the role to rave reviews and standing ovations when Close was indisposed. Other West End credits include Fantine in Les Miserables, Grizabella in Cats and Florence in Chess.
